Manipulations

My ideas for manipulation come from the basic forms that were manipulated in the making of every day structures. Once they are broken down they give off even more of a post modern aesthetic. In these images I took an photo of this famous Dutch built building in China, and began to break it down. I came to isolate a form that I was particulary interested in and began to replicate/distort. From here I hope to achieve something new out of something old.

Gum Series - Alt Photo

This image was created by three black-gum layers. The initial image was drawn in illustrator amd can be seen in a previous post.

The second and third images were also drawn in illustrator as well, I should not forget to mention that all of these images were made with ink-jet negatives, bridging the gap between physical and digital.

Sculpture sketches

The image on the right is the form that I have decided to built. The aim for this piece is to achieve a relationship between 2-D and 3-D...somewhat of an optical illusion.

SKEtches

New ROBOT

This robot was originally a replica of a super nintendo but I decided to make it into a robot, no reason really. I plan on painting it super nintendo colors using acrylic, that will come in some time. This robot has a basic joint in it's "elbows" that consists of a nail pushed from the top of the arm through the bottom.

This was my first alteration done in illustrator, quite simple.
Down below is the second alteration.

Simple deductions

Just by removing a few lines the form begins to become more recognizable. Now on the right, for construction purposes, this is more ideal. It has been reduced and reduced.

Sulpture Ideas

This was some out-of-my- head conceptual sketch of what I had thought of at the time was "simple form". The construction of this form, as you can see, complicated. Though the free standing element of it seemed desirable at the time. When taking into consideration that this is a 3-D interpretation of a 2-D image, creating it to stand freely would compromise its adherence to 2-D translation. Now, the sketch on the right is more in the direction of two dimensional form. This is of course a deviate from the impossible triangle which we know has a puzzling perspective. This drawing is a depiction of that form simplified down to the element of line, in which is was conceived.
